Staying Healthy and Fit for 2014

Staying Healthy and Fit for 2014

A new year, a new beginning for yourself. This year I have decided to be more active. I do not like working out; I'm sure a lot of women out there can agree. However, I have found a method that is easy and doesn't take a lot of energy out of you...walking. Walking is an easy way to stay active. In this post, I will be sharing some tips that have help kept me motived so far this year.

Tip #1:
One way to stay motived is keeping a schedule/calendar of your workout routine. I made a spread sheet on Excel of the whole 2014 year. I chose to walk for my daily exercise, but you can do whatever exercise you want. I then put the activity I did and the time frame I did it in. My goal is to walk an hour a day, but the weather where I live has not been the best lately. For the days that I didn't walk, I put 'Day Off'. This helps me keep track of how many days I have walked so far. You can also use a daily planner or calendar to do the same concept as I did on my Excel spread sheet.

Tip #2:
When staying active, I like to dress properly. I know a lot of women like to wear yoga pants while working out. Personally, I don't like wearing tight fitting clothing. I usually wear a t-shirt, sweatpants, shorts and sometimes a sweatshirt if it is cold out. I like wearing baggy clothes while working out because I feel comfortable in them. However, some women rather wear tight fitting tops and pants while working out. All I am saying is wear something that is going to make you feel comfortable.

Always remember to dress appropriately for certain weather conditions. This time of year where I live is usually cold, so I like to wear sweatpants, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, gloves and a hat. For the spring/summer season, I would wear shorts and a t-shirt/tank top. Don't forget the sunscreen!

You also want to make sure you have the proper shoes. I have been wearing sneakers that I have had since 7th grade!! (Hey, they still fit!) Eventually, I will make myself buy a new pair because my "7th grade Nike sneakers" have seen better days. If you chose to run, it would be best to get a shoe that is designed for running. I know Kohls has great brands of sneakers.

Tip #3:
Sometimes working out can be boring. One way to make it more fun is by listening to music! If you have an iPod, iPod touch, iPhone, MP3player or anything that is light weight that can play music, bring it along with you next time you work out. Listening to music helps pass the time away. Make a playlist of songs that are upbeat and fast. This will help keep your mind focused.

Tip #4:
I know a lot of people think that they have to join a gym to stay in shape. However, you can do simple exercises at home that can help you lose weight. You can also go to a public school where they have a track. If you don't have a track near you, go run, jog or walk around your block or neighborhood. Even though it would be nice to be a member of a gym, I just don't have the expenses right now. Maybe one day though.

Tip #5:
I have heard that if you work off more calories then you consume, you can lose a pound. Now I know a lot of us, including myself, have a hard time keeping track of how many calories we consume everyday. However, by exercising at least an hour a day will help you stay fit and possibly help you lose weight. Another way to help you lose weight is set a time where you stop eating for the rest of the day. An example would be 8:00 p.m. is the set time where you can't eat anything after 8:00 p.m.

Tip #6:
Always stay hydrated! Drink penalty of water during and after you workout. Also, I have heard that if you are hungry at night, you should drink water. Water will trick your mind into thinking it is full.

I hope you enjoyed my "Staying Fit Tips". I'm really excited to start an active life. Everyday I feel more happy and energetic. I hope my tips have helped you start thinking about an exercise plan for 2014. Try setting a goal for yourself this year to do some kind of exercise because trust me, you will feel more happy about yourself.
